1st of all you must be a good credit inorder to qualify for the lowest APR rate. I know because I just brought a new car for 2.9% APR for 60 months, and my credit is 740+. For the Used car, the interest will be much higher, I would think in between 6.9+. Try to improve your credit score, such as, pay bill on time, try to have more then one credit card, and keep it up for about a year or two before purchase a new or used car. The other way is try to buy the in Cash, that case, you dont need to qualify for any rate at all

A better way would be to put a bigger down payment, that would lower your interest rate. Other then that and having a solid employment or larger monthly payments, not much you can do about that. The key is to get the car paid for as quick as you can to save yourself money.
Your score is low, though not too bad. You are seen as a potential liability to the lender who is giving you the car, therefore for the last guy who defaulted on his car loan you will be charged for his mistake.
Out of 100 people with your credit score, about 25 of them default on their loans according to Equifax.

I suggest checking with a few online loan brokers. Lendingtree.com and eloan.com both shop your application to multiple lenders. That way you get the best rate and terms with very little work on your part. I got a couple of loans through lendingtree, and have referred a few people. Most have had a good experience.
